Ancelotti: I could stay at Real Madrid until I’m 80!
Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has enjoyed a history-making week with the Bernabeu side – and he has stated that he wants to remain in charge of Los Blancos for many more years.
The 62-year-old has suggested, however, that his current post could be his last one.
Ancelotti has staked a claim as the greatest coach in the history of the game over the past seven days. He led Real Madrid to La Liga title glory last weekend, meaning that he completed the set of trophies in all of Europe’s Big 5 leagues, becoming the first manager in history to do so.
That was followed up in spectacular style on Wednesday, when he guided Real Madrid past Manchester City in the Champions League, with his side having apparently been out of the tie at 2-0 down on aggregate after 89 minutes. With that victory, he became the first manager to qualify for five finals in the competition.
Ancelotti’s plans
Given this impressive roll of honour, Ancelotti as said that he wants to keep adding to it while at Real Madrid – but that there may not be any more to come when he leaves.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, he explained: “If Real Madrid get tired of me then I could think about retiring.
“No club is bigger than Real Madrid. Finishing my long career here would be perfect. But I want to stay here many years.
“If everything goes well, I could stay here until I'm 80. I enjoy this club a lot. You won't find a better team than Real Madrid.”
Ancelotti, who has previously coached at clubs such as Juventus, Milan, Chelsea, PSG and Bayern Munich to name just a handful, will lead his Real Madrid side into the Champions League final against Liverpool on 28 May at Paris’ Stade de France.
