Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is not about to back down from the challenge of Manchester City after they complete a transfer for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.

Having netted 85 times in 88 matches for BVB, there is an expectation that Haaland will give Pep Guardiola’s side yet another thrilling dimension to their play. Indeed, he is being touted as the missing piece of the puzzle to elevate them to win the Champions League for the first time.

It is a deal that is set to send shockwaves around the Premier League, but Klopp is up for the challenge that the new addition will bring.

Speaking to the media, he said: “If Erling Haaland goes there, it will not weaken them - definitely not. I think it's been spoken about enough and at the moment it's a lot of talk about money but this transfer will set new levels, let me say it like that.”

Klopp recently signed a new contract with Liverpool and he says that he expected Man City to pull out such a transfer.

“I signed a new contract knowing that City will not stop developing, so it's not about if City keep flying whether we can be happy or not. It's about us and what we can make of it.,” he said. “We have so many opportunities and so many different ways to win a football game, and we to find just one. That's possible, obviously, and we can do that.”

Klopp’s offensive headaches

Rather than fearing Haaland, Klopp sees the new addition as just another challenge to overcome. It is typical of his fearless mentality and shows why he has been such a success in management.

While City strengthen, though, Liverpool face something of an uncertain time. They have contracts for Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino set to expire in 2023, and there are already suggestions that the Senegal international could leave for Bayern Munich, while the Egypt star is struggling to agree terms for a renewal too.

The Reds are, therefore, set for something of a rebuild, which began in January when they signed Luis Dias from Porto.

Given the wild success of the Colombia international star, Liverpool fans will rest easy knowing that Klopp likely has a left-field solution to the problem up his sleeve to match Haaland.
