Ilkay Gundogan’s transfer links with Real Madrid have been dismissed by model Sara Arfaoui, who branded the rumours “fake news”.

Gundogan was said to have hired a private jet to allow him to speak to the Spanish side, with the suggestion that he will soon be offloaded by Manchester City.

Arfaoui, though, has dismissed these claims out of hand – revealing instead that the couple had a secret wedding.

“We are married. We are very happy... we wanted to keep it private but unfortunately after this fake news about my husband I felt compelled to tell the truth,” she said.

“I’ve never been to Madrid. Sometimes, the private reason is not football.”

The pair were engaged in December and have wasted little time in tying the knot.

Despite rumours of a Real Madrid move being quashed, Gundogan has been linked with a possible transfer to either Arsenal or Barcelona, with Manchester City seeking alternative options in the middle of the field as he enters the final year of his contract.

He is not the only Manchester City player in this situation, however. Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and Riyad Mahrez are in a similar position and all three are being linked with potential moves away from Pep Guardiola’s side.

With Arfaoui based in Italy, it might point to the Germany international moving to Serie A in the near future.

Who is Sara Arfaoui?

Sara Arfaoui is a 26-year-old model and television personality who was born on July 16, 1995 in Nice, France but holds Italian nationality. She has stayed in Italy since she was young.

Gundogan is typically secretive of his personal life and so too is Arfaoui, so it is not clear exactly how long the pair have been together for. The first images of the pair together appeared on Instagram in October 2021, when they were photographed in Portofino, Italy.
