Antonio Rudiger's agent meets with Newcastle over Ismaila Sarr transfer
Newcastle have been offered the chance to sign Watford attacker Ismaila Sarr, FootballTransfers understands.
Antonio Rudiger's agent Saif Rubie - as well as Senegalese representative Thierno Seydi - met with the club last month in London, with the winger looking for a way out of his current club who are looking like they will drop to the Championship.
It's not clear how much interest the Magpies have in the player but FootballTransfers has been told that in any deal the Hornets will ask for €47.7 million (£40m).
We understand Rubie's meeting with the club is not an indication that his client, Rudiger, is looking for a way to Newcastle, with the Chelsea defender almost certainly moving to recently crowned La Liga champions Real Madrid in the summer.
Sarr, 24, is a towering winger who has played 91 times for Watford, scoring 24 goals along the way.
The attacker was signed by the Hornets in 2018 from Ligue 1 side Rennes for a reported €35.7m and has spent three seasons at Vicarage Road.
Newcastle looking upwards
It's one of the worst-kept secrets that Newcastle's owners are among the richest in the world.
As a result, the side are regularly brief local reporters that they will not be spending lavishly ahead of a window.
But it seems that the top brass of agents are not paying much attention to the calls of frugality, with intermediaries going directly to the club with player names.
It’s an attractive proposition, even without European football. Their project looks to rival any of those in Europe's elite in the coming seasons.
But while Magpies would have been offered a number of names over the past several months, Sarr, who FootballTransfers values at €19m, does fit the bill for Eddie Howe’s side.
Newcastle are certainly in need of a right-sided centre-back and striker, but next to that is a winger who can come in and bolster their attacking options.
