Official: The worst Man Utd team in Premier League history
Now it’s official. This is the worst Manchester United team in Premier League history.
Ralf Rangnick's Red Devils completed the season with a 1-0 loss away to Crystal Palace, a fitting way to exit a campaign in which they have achieved their lowest points tally since the Premier League began.
Not only that, they have fewer wins than any previous season. Their 16 victories are a low mark in the modern era and continues the trend of decline since Sir Alex Ferguson retired. The Scotsman won at least 21 games in each of the __ Premier League seasons he oversaw. Since his retirement, they have equalled that mark once and bettered it only once more.
Man Utd finish the season on 58 points. Their worst campaign before this one - since the Premier League was created in 1992 - was in 2013/14 when they accumulated 64 points in the first campaign after Ferguson’s retirement.

That season United finished seventh, which is their lowest league placing in the Premier League. United sneaked into sixth this term as West Ham lost away to Brighton on the final day of the season.
Man Utd have conceded 57 Premier League goals, another record figure – surpassing the 54 they let in during 2018-19. Only twice had they conceded more than 45.

United’s goal difference of +1 is also set to be their worst-ever in the Premier League era. Their previous worst goal difference was in the 2018-19 season when they ended the campaign on +11. Jose Mourinho was replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer midway through the campaign.
This season Solskjaer was sacked before the half-way point, with Ralf Rangnick coming in as interim manager until the end of the season.
Unfortunately, Rangnick has failed to turn around Man Utd’s fortunes.
It has now been five years since Man Utd won a trophy, and they have suffered a host of heavy losses throughout 2021-22.

In addition to this Brighton thumping, they were hammered 5-0 and 4-0 by Liverpool, 4-1 by Man City and relegated Watford and also suffered embarrassing losses to Young Boys, Leicester and Middlesbrough.
It is no surprise that Cristiano Ronaldo was seen shaking his head repeatedly after Brighton scored their third goal in a stunning 4-0 loss earlier in May.
He returned to Man Utd this season to make more history…just not this kind of history.
