Rangnick reveals one key issue for Manchester United’s summer recruitment process
Ralf Rangnick knows that he only has one more official match remaining before Erik ten Hag takes over as coach of Manchester United and before he leaves to coach Austria, but the German also plans to remain at Old Trafford as a consultant and is already planning the summer transfer strategy.
The last two matches have summed up Manchester United’s season, as they earned a comfortable 3-0 win over Brentford, before being thrashed 4-0 against Brighton & Hove Albion. For Rangnick, this hot and cold approach needs to be fixed.
“It's about consistency, and this is what we lacked in the last weeks and months,” the coach explained in an interview with Manchester United’s official media.
“We lacked consistency, we didn't always play on that level. It's also a question of finding the right balance between what we can do on the pitch in possession of the ball, what do the other teams allow us to do, and what kind of defensive stability, physicality, do we need? This will also be an important issue for the recruitment process for the next season.”
58 - Manchester United’s defeat leaves them on 58 points with just one Premier League game remaining this season, guaranteeing that 2021-22 will see their lowest ever points total in a campaign in the competition (previously 64 in 2013-14). Rebuild? pic.twitter.com/LLQS4LTEy8

A difficult end to a difficult Manchester United season
Even though hopes of finishing in the top four had been dashed some time ago, Rangnick was still keen to finish the campaign on a high. But, no matter what happens in the final game against Crystal Palace, the Brighton thrashing will linger in the mind into the summer.
Still, the German has tried to share a message of optimism with the fanbase. He said: “I’m still very positive with Erik ten Hag that we have a top manager next season. The board has already made some changes and there will be more to come in the summer. I’m still positive that we can change the whole issue and show a completely different face next season. This is important not only for our fans but also for the image of the whole club.”
