Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Brentford on Monday evening has been overshadowed by the furore that has erupted surrounding Jesse Lingard.

Lingard is understood to be upset and furious with the club and interim manager Ralf Rangnick after he was left on the bench for the entire 90 minutes.

The reason Lingard is so upset is because this was Man Utd’s final home game of the season.

Lingard’s contract expires in the summer and he will leave the club on a Bosman Transfer, with a host of Serie A clubs plus Newcastle and West Ham interested.

The 29-year-old wanted to come on in order to have a farewell outing before he left.

Considering the fact that Man Utd were 3-0 up when Rangnick made his final two subs 15 minutes from time, there seemed little risk in not winning the game.

Instead, Rangnick decided to introduce Phil Jones and Edinson Cavani for Anthony Elanga and Juan Mata.

Cavani himself had not played for six weeks due to injury and only returned to training on Friday.

Rangnick offered a bizarre explanation for his decision to not bring Lingard on.

What did Rangnick say?

"As you know for personal family reasons, Lingard didn't train a lot," Rangnick said.

"Yesterday was the first training session. Again, after he asked me to allow him some time at home.

"Tonight was one of those nights where I would have loved five substitutes for other players. Also, Alejandro Garnacho, I would have loved to have brought him on at 3-0 up and let him play him for 15 minutes. But then I had to decide between substituting and bringing on him or Edinson Cavani and that's why I decided to play Edinson."

Given the fact that Lingard has been at the club since the age of seven, making 232 senior appearances and winning four trophies, it appears rather cold not to give him a chance to say goodbye properly.

What did Lingard’s brother say?

Lingard’s brother took to Instagram after the game to issue a withering attack on the club.

Louie Scott blasted on Instagram stories: “"20 years of blood sweat and tears, 4 domestic trophies, 3 cup final goal, not even a farewell. No wonder it's Conference League next year.

"Attacking players for celebrations when the clubs being sold to the super league ok. Class of 92, Busby Babes, you're ran by people who don't even know the offside trap. Classless and the fans need to realise.

"Been there since nine years of age and didn't even get a send-off!!! Well done bro your family are proud."

Lingard has only had two Premier League starts all campaign and played just 547 minutes in all competitions.
