Nottingham Forest have opened talks with Manchester United over a move for Dean Henderson and there is confidence the side can conclude the deal very soon, FootballTransfers has been told.

Following the news that Brice Samba has refused a fresh contract, Forest have been quick on their feet in bringing in a suitable replacement.

The goalkeeper has been linked to several clubs recently. As we reported earlier this month, Henderson was not in talks with Newcastle over a move to St James’ Park.

Sources have told us that it’s likely that a deal between the Reds and Henderson will be finalised shortly. It will be in the form of an initial loan then a £20 million permanent deal.

Talks are already well underway and the feeling is that the Midlands club will be making Henderson one of their first transfers of the summer window.

Is Henderson a worthy replacement?

Samba was arguably the best goalkeeper in the Championship last season. He stunned fans by turning down an offer of a new deal after Forest made it back to the Premier League. Reports now suggest that the shot-stopper will be heading to Ligue 1.

With Henderson, Forest have got themselves a player who is not only Premier League quality already, but who can also grow. The 25-year-old has been with Man Utd since the age of 15 but David de Gea has so far been keeping him out of first-time opportunities.

Henderson enjoyed two great loan spells at Sheffield United but only featured in three games last season across the campaign.

He has spoken about the importance of game-time, saying that his experiences in non-league helped him grow.

Henderson told the club’s site: “You don’t just go into the first team as a goalkeeper through the Academy. It doesn’t work like that.

"For me, I followed the pathways so well, I did exactly those steps. I played for Stockport in the Conference North, Grimsby in League Two, Shrewsbury in League One and then Championship and Premier League for Sheffield United to come back and create a situation here."

Henderson has spent his whole career at Manchester United, aside from these numerous loan spells.
