The four clubs Vinicius Jr rejected to sign new Real Madrid contract
Vinicius Junior will sign a new contract with Real Madrid, having turned down numerous advances to leave the club.
The 21-year-old is presently under contract until 2024 but had come onto the radar of some leading clubs after a spectacular breakout season at the Bernabeu, in which he realised the potential that Los Blancos have long felt he has possessed.
Over the course of the season, he scored 22 goals and created 20 more in a historic season in which Real Madrid won both La Liga and the Champions League – the 14th occasion they have won that title. His importance to the side is set to be underlined with a €1 billion release clause in his new deal.
Vini Jr is now FootballTransfers’ third most valuable player, behind only Manchester City’s Phil Foden and PSG’s Kylian Mbappe. He is also one of only four players to be valued in excess of €100m.
That was not about to stop several clubs from taking a look at him and working to persuade him to leave.
What clubs wanted Vinicius Jr?
Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and PSG were all seriously interested in signing Vinicius Jr, according to Marca.
It is claimed that PSG had been in touch with the player since November 2021, with the report from Spain suggesting that the Ligue 1 side had been making “continuous” calls to the youngster.
Furthermore, Les Parisiens also pleaded with the Brazil star not to sign a contract with Real Madrid and tempted him with an offer of €40 million per year – around four times what he will receive when he signs his new deal with Los Blancos.
There is nothing to suggest that the interest from any of the Premier League clubs was anything like as intense as that from the French side.
In any case, Vinicius Junior will remain with Real Madrid, with only the formalities of his new contract to be completed before it is made official.
