How much will Man Utd sell Anthony Martial for this summer?
Manchester United have made it one of their objectives for the summer transfer window to sell Anthony Martial.
The France international striker has endured a difficult couple of seasons. During 2020/21, he suffered a knee ligament rupture. The 26-year-old has struggled to bounce back from that, netting only two goals in 23 games this term.
Indeed, United even loaned him out to Sevilla in a bid for the former Monaco man to recapture his form, yet he flopped in Spain, scoring only once in 12 outings – that in the Europa League. As FootballTransfers revealed, it was never the intention of the La Liga club to keep hold of the striker, but his thoroughly indifferent form did nothing to change their minds.
Now, Man Utd face the difficult task of finding a buyer for a player capped 30 times by France.
Man Utd slash Martial’s asking price
Martial carries a FootballTransfers valuation of €38 million, but the Red Devils are so desperate to part company with the forward, who has a contract until 2024, they are prepared to slash their asking price for him. Indeed, the Sun reports that United are willing to sell him for as little as €23m (£20m).
Even at this price, though, Martial promises to be a tough sell. It is little to do with the transfer fee and more to do with the player’s wages, which are believed to be in the region of €280,000 (£240,000) a week.
With football still reeling financially from the Covid-19 pandemic, there are few clubs who can afford to spend such a wage on a player they will see as a risky acquisition.
Man Utd may, therefore, need to look at other ways to get Martial off their books this summer. This could include another loan deal, although the probability is that they would be left footing a large portion of his healthy wage.
