'Our club is a laughing stock' - How Man Utd fans have reacted to Ronaldo to Chelsea
Cristiano Ronaldo could make a sensational switch to Chelsea this summer after his agent Jorge Mendes met with the Blues' new owner and interim sporting director Todd Boehly.
Boehly's consortium won the bid to take over ownership of Chelsea from Roman Abramovich after the billionaire was sanctioned by the British government following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and appointed himself interim sporting director after the departure of Marina Granovskaia.
The American held a meeting with Mendes in Portugal last week and a potential move from Manchester United to Chelsea for Ronaldo was a discussion point, according to The Athletic's David Ornstein.
It's not yet known if a deal is in the works, if Chelsea are seriously pursuing a move or if Ronaldo even wants to join the Stamford Bridge outfit. However, Thomas Tuchel's side may look to add a new attacker following news of Romelu Lukaku's loan move back to Inter Milan and reports that Timo Werner could be used in a swap deal with Juventus for Matthijs de Ligt.
Ronaldo netted 24 goals in all competitions for Man Utd last season, which ensured he was the club's top scorer, which would've been an accolade he'd have received at Chelsea had he been there last campaign.
The Portuguese global superstar only returned to Old Trafford last summer after initially leaving the club for Real Madrid in 2009 before joining Juventus in 2018.
Despite his efforts in front of goal, Man Utd finished in a lowly sixth place in the Premier League, and only avoided Europa Conference League football because West Ham lost to Brighton on the final day of the season.
Chelsea would be able to offer Champions League football to Ronaldo, which could be a considerable draw for a player who is nearing the end of his career at the highest level aged 37.
How have Man Utd fans reacted?
I strongly doubt 37-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo will join Chelsea. Think it's a way of pushing Man Utd to show more ambition in the transfer market, but the fact that this is happening is absolutely EMBARRASSING.
They've turned our club into a laughing stock.— UtdFaithfuls (@UtdFaithfuls) June 25, 2022
I was already mentally checked out but I’m fully done with football if Ronaldo joins Chelsea. Don’t need this club messing with my head like that

It would be a good wake up call if he left and joined our rival, maybe this fanbase will Wake up and chase away the glazers

Wouldn't blame him if he leaves. No point in staying if our club doesn't want to fight for titles.

Basically Ronaldo wants what every fan wants but the Glazers won’t match that ambition https://t.co/4BNsbzKq6X

Cristiano Ronaldo wants Manchester United to succeed, and therefore show ambition in the transfer market.
He’s essentially the complete opposite of the Glazer family.— Alexei (@MUFC_redarmy99) June 25, 2022
How have Chelsea fans reacted?
Ronaldo’s name getting leaked was 100% a stunt from the players side to make Man Utd hurry up and make signings.

Signing Ronaldo isn't necessarily for sporting project gains, the business side is huge too. Boehly will use every possible means to make Chelsea a bigger brand and generate more revenue, even if it means signing Ronaldo and keep him on the bench.
