How much have Chelsea spent on transfers so far this summer?
Chelsea have spent €401.1 million on transfers so far during the 2023 summer window, with Mauricio Pochettino being fully backed by the club’s owners.
A total of 11 players have joined the Blues this summer, with Moises Caicedo the most expensive to sign for the club after his move from Brighton & Hove Albion was finally agreed on 14 August.
The Ecuador international was purchased for an initial fee of €116m (£100m), but that is likely to reach €133m (£115m) via achievable add-ons.
A matter of days later, Chelsea confirmed the arrival of Romeo Lavia from Southampton for €68m (£58m). The Blues will pay an initial €62m for the Belgium international, with the rest set to be paid as bonuses. Incredibly, both players had looked likely to go to Liverpool before being pinched by the Blues.

Chelsea’s huge spending
Chelsea have been the most controversial club in the transfer market since Todd Boehly took over as owner in 2022, with the American billionaire pumping money into the club and using loopholes to amortise transfer fees over long contracts.
That strategy has seen Chelsea avoid Financial Fair Play charge, at least for now, with a total of 23 players signing deals of five years or longer since Boehly took charge.

In 2022, the Blues went big in the summer window, bringing in the likes of Raheem Sterling, Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella on large fees, while also spending big on talented youngsters such as Cesare Casadei and Carney Chukwuemeka.
That strategy has been altered slightly, with Chelsea now focused almost solely on signing the best young talents in world football, no matter how much they cost.
That was perhaps best seen when they broke the British transfer record for Enzo Fernandez in January 2023 before they exceeded that mark again with the addition of Caicedo. Chelsea have spent over €1 billion since Boehly took over in the summer of 2022.
