Five transfers that could be completed this week
We are set for another busy week in the transfer market as Chelsea and Manchester United in particular look to bring in some big names before the Premier League season begins at the weekend.
Barcelona are also looking to sign more players, while AC Milan are set to sign one of the best youngsters in Europe.
Here are some transfers that could be completed by the end of the week.
Charles De Ketelaere
From: Club Brugge
To: Milan
Fee: €35m
AC Milan made Charles De Ketelaere their primary transfer target for the summer and they are set to officially complete a deal for the attacking midfielder in the coming hours. They have agreed a deal worth around €35 million with Club Brugge, with De Ketelaere set to sign a five-year contract. Milan have beaten Leeds to the transfer.
Gini Wijnaldum
From: PSG
To: Roma
Fee: LOAN
Gini Wijnaldum was expected to be one of the signings of the season when he joined PSG on a free transfer last summer but he endured a miserable time in Paris. He lost his place in the team and he has requested to leave this summer. Roma are in negotiations to take Wijnaldum to the Olimpico on loan with an option to buy, with PSG paying a chunk of the midfielder's wages.
Marc Cucurella
From: Brighton
To: Chelsea
Fee: €60m
Brighton left-back Marc Cucurella had been expected to join Manchester City after Pep Guardiola made him his chosen replacement for Oleksandr Zinchenko, who joined Arsenal. However, after Man City refused to meet Brighton's hefty €60m asking price, Chelsea moved in to hijack the deal. Cucurella is now expected to complete a move to London this week.
Bernd Leno
From: Arsenal
To: Fulham
Fee: €9.5m
Bernd Leno lost his place in the Arsenal team last season to Aaron Ramsdale and was always going to move this summer. He has now agreed a three-year contract with Fulham, who will pay €9.5m for the Germany goalkeeper.
Frenkie De Jong
From: Barcelona
To: Manchester United
Fee: €85m
The saga that never seems to end; Frenkie De Jong's transfer to Manchester United could become a lot clearer this week.
The two teams agreed terms on a deal a while ago, although the move is being held up by the Dutchman's reluctance to leave Barcelona.
De Jong is stalling over the move as he is still owed more than €20m in deferred wages by Barca and the 25-year-old is unconvinced by a switch to Old Trafford. This week could be make-or-break for United. Watch out for Chelsea, too.
