Another day, another controversy at Manchester United.

The fallen giants of English and European football seem to jump from one crisis to another, and the latest revolves around Cristiano Ronaldo.

News broke at the weekend that Ronaldo has requested to leave United this summer.

The Portuguese superstar wants to join a club that are playing in the Champions League and can challenge for major titles – neither of which his current club can.

The 37-year-old is also reported to be unhappy at Man Utd because he has received a 25 per cent wage cut as a result of the club failing to qualify for the Champions League.

SportBible posted this pay-cut story on their Instagram account.

The post read: “Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly ‘upset’ with the 25% wage cut all players received when Manchester United failed to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

“The five-time Ballon d’Or winner will see his £480,000-a-week salary reduced to £360,000 as United play in the Europa League.”

Incredibly, the post was liked by Ronaldo’s Man Utd teammate Harry Maguire.

It is unclear whether Maguire was liking the fact that Ronaldo may be leaving the club or if he was simply unhappy himself about the salary cuts.

The relationship between Ronaldo and Maguire has been a subject of intense media scrutiny this past season – with reports that the pair do not see eye-to-eye.

Nevertheless, Maguire’s decision to like the post has been slammed by users on social media. The defender has been blasted for his unprofessionalism, with many fans calling for him to be stripped of his captaincy or even sold.

It has also been pointed out that this is just another example of what a circus Manchester United has become, with very few users defending Maguire.
