Manchester United have had a busy transfer window, with much of their focus being on the signing of Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona.

In the background, they’ve worked on other deals to get the squad ready for next season, as Tyrell Malacia has joined, with Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez set to complete moves soon.

However, there have been players who have refused moves to Old Trafford this summer, and that list has recently gotten bigger.

Which players have refused moves to Manchester United this summer?

Jonathan Clauss

French wing-back Jonathan Clauss is the latest member on this list, after he rejected Manchester United’s interest in favour of a Ligue 1 stay.

The Lens player had a fine season, even earning a call-up to the French national team, and picked up interest from the Red Devils and Chelsea.

Instead, he’s chosen to move to Marseille, who have the appeal of Champions League football next season, and he’ll be hoping to continue his form.

Darwin Nunez

The most high-profile player on this list, Darwin Nunez refused a move to Manchester United in favour of a transfer to rivals Liverpool.

The price set for the Uruguayan was already quite high from Benfica, but the player himself preferred Champions League football and a top project.

Liverpool could offer both, while Manchester United are undergoing yet another period of transition, making the choice simpler for Nunez.

Jurrien Timber

There was great interest from Manchester United in Jurrien Timber, as Erik ten Hag wanted to bring a piece of his fine Ajax defence to Old Trafford.

A deal was reportedly close again, but Timber was advised against it to keep his secure Ajax place and ensure he goes to the World Cup with the Netherlands.

All is not over, though, as there is a wide expectation that Manchester United will be back in for the player in the near future.

Matthijs De Ligt

Manchester United wanted to improve their back-line and Matthijs de Ligt was a top target, once again down to the link he shared with Ten Hag.

The two were a great pair when at Ajax, and the coach wanted to recreate that while at Old Trafford, building his defence around De Ligt.

However, like others, De Ligt preferred a better project, and he has moved to Bayern Munich, having spent three years at Juventus.

Malcolm Ebiowei

A youngster Manchester United had been keeping an eye on, Malcolm Ebiowei refused a move to Manchester United in favour of Crystal Palace.

The 18-year-old winger was leaving Derby County and had the two Premier League sides interested in him, with a move to Old Trafford looking likely at one point.

However, he preferred a move to the London club, probably looking at their recent success in developing players such as Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise.
