Liverpool have confirmed that talismanic forward Mohamed Salah has put pen-to-paper on a new three-year deal with the club.

The 30-year-old was entering the final year of his contract and there were initial concerns that the two sides would not come to an agreement but Salah has now extended until 2025.

Salah called on the club to continue their hard work in chasing silverware and said: “I feel great and [I am] excited to win trophies with the club. It’s a happy day for everyone.

“It takes a little bit of time, I think, to renew, but now everything is done so we just need to focus on what’s next.

Salah gets his reward

Liverpool were keen to keep hold of Salah despite him entering his thirties and reportedly demanding wages in excess of £300,000 a week as well as a multi-year deal.

However, the Egyptian’s form last season was enough to convince the club that he still had plenty of offer despite their policy of not offering long-term contracts to players over 30.

The club were also reluctant to enter the new season with the future of one of their key players up in the air, having already sold star forward Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich.

Salah won the PFA Player’s player of the year and the FWA Footballer of The Year awards for the second time after scoring 31 goals in all competitions last season.

His representatives had been in negotiations with Liverpool over a new deal for many months which prompted speculation that he could be sold this summer or depart on a free next year.

But the former Chelsea man has now committed his future to the Reds until he turns 33 and remains one of the highest earners at the club.

Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid were among the sides said to be interested in testing Liverpool’s resolve over a move but it is believed that Salah was always keen on extending his career at Anfield.
