Ronaldo proven right as Man Utd’s transfer business hits new low with Brobbey
It is evident that Cristiano Ronaldo is unhappy at Manchester United – and he has every reason to be.
The Portugal star has not publicly explained why he is disgruntled with the club, but there are two main strands of thinking. Firstly, he is upset with the team’s lack of competitiveness. Having finished sixth in the Premier League last season with a record low tally of points, his stance is understandable.
Related to this but a different point, he is said by some sources to be concerned that the transfer makeover that was expected this season at Old Trafford does not go far enough.
To this point in the season, that is hard to argue. Man Utd have succeeded only in signing Tyrell Malacia, a left-back signed from Feyenoord in the summer who is expected to come in and act only as a backup to Luke Shaw.
Target after target has been missed while Liverpool and Manchester City have been busy buffing their squads and, apparently, stretching their already considerable advantage over the Red Devils.
Even deals that look inevitable are being done sluggishly. Christian Eriksen was expected to be a Manchester United player by now, although it does seem that he will ultimately join the squad on their pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia.
The same is not certain of Ronaldo – but who can blame him when the club is being run so haphazardly.
Brobbey a transfer low for Man Utd
Arguably, the club has hit a low with their pursuit of RB Leipzig striker Brian Brobbey. The 20-year-old left Ajax in 2021 with a big reputation to join RB Leipzig but was a complete flop in Germany, featuring in nine Bundesliga matches without scoring and generally performing abysmally.
A January loan move to Ajax reaped more success and seems to have done enough to persuade manager Erik ten Hag that he is worth following up.
But according to the Manchester Evening News, Man Utd believe they will be beaten to the 20-year-old Bundesliga flop by the Amsterdam club.
When Manchester United are being beaten to transfer targets by Ajax, something is inherently wrong and Ronaldo has every justification to be concerned.
