Ten Hag out! Man Utd fans furious as Maguire confirmed as captain
Harry Maguire will remain Manchester United captain for the 2022/23 season, new manager Erik ten Hag has announced, and fans of the club are up in arms over the decision.
Maguire may be the world’s most expensive defender, but he was also the target for intense criticism last season for a string of disappointing performances.
Many felt that he was unworthy of being the club captain as United slumped to sixth in the Premier League table and experienced their worst campaign in terms of points in the history of the competition.
The arrival of Ten Hag was supposed to signal the end of the previous era, but in backing Maguire as captain, there is already a sense of déjà vu creeping over Man Utd fans before the first ball has even been kicked in the club’s first pre-season friendly against Liverpool on Tuesday.
Indeed, many supporters are angry that the feel-good factor that the Dutchman brought when his arrival was announced has been eradicated within weeks. The club have failed to land major transfer targets, there is ongoing uncertainty over the future of Cristiano Ronaldo and now Maguire has been made captain.
That has been reflected in the response of many fans on social media to what they perceive to be the latest setback in the early weeks of Ten Hag’s time in charge of the club.
I have already lost respect for Erik Ten Hag. There is no way you can keep #Maguire as your captain. #TenHagOut #MaguireOut #mufc pic.twitter.com/xv4prpP0ao

Ten Hag has confirmed Harry Maguire is the captain.....told you. Ridiculous. How can someone who led us like that last year, leaks etc still be captain. Ten Hag just said Maguire has achieved a lot of success over the years

There are going to be people who will want Ten Hag out now.
The man has got a tough few years ahead of him for saying Maguire is still captain.— Oliver (@Oliveresuana) July 11, 2022
Maguire is still Manchester United’s Captain . A finished club with a finished captain lmao

11 different managers have picked Harry Maguire across his career
All had the same end result of total failure.
No reason to think thats going to change.
Hope this helps— Mike (@MikeLUHG2) July 11, 2022

Harry Maguire retaining the armband is as outrageous as Glazers still owning the club 🤌🏼 the fact that he’s still gonna be our 1st choice CB this season after being by far the worse player in the squad shows how changed this sick club is 😊

However, there are a group of Man Utd fans, led by Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville, still backing the defender.
So the same United fans fuming with me for applauding the decision to keep Maguire as captain seem to be without knowing criticising the new manager for his decision. Maybe support Maguire and stop bullying him on here! The new manager obviously likes him.

“Harry Maguire should never play for this club again” 4 days after liking an Ig post, not only Maguire gets to keep his job which was never even under threat but also is retaining his captaincy. hope you lot have ur umbrellas cause the tears today are not going to be friendly

Firstly I personally don't see Harry Maguire as the right man as captain however its imperative that we understand the full picture.
It's clearly he wants to get to know his squad better until he makes big changes like the captaincy.
Lets be patient and see.#MUFC 🔴— UtdActive 🔴 (@UtdActive) July 11, 2022
Ten Hag will quickly have learned the difficulties in being Manchester United boss, then.
