Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked with several moves away from Manchester United in recent times, and Atletico Madrid seem to be the latest in line.

The Portuguese star made his desire to leave Old Trafford clear last month, and has been linked with many clubs including Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Chelsea.

No serious offer has been made, with clubs refusing to make a move due to the high financial costs of the operation as well as Ronaldo’s tactical fit in their respective sides.

However, Atletico Madrid may be a possibility, and Ronaldo is being encouraged to make the move by his partner, Georgina Rodriguez.

Ronaldo could be pushed for Atletico Madrid move

Signing Ronaldo will be quite difficult for Atletico Madrid, as they will have to pay a transfer fee to Manchester United and take on the forward’s high wages.

Additionally, Atletico Madrid don’t have a big financial capacity – they need to sell about €40 million worth of players to make it work, and even that may not be enough.

Manager Diego Simeone, though, sees the benefits of signing a player like Ronaldo – he thinks the Manchester United man could have a similar impact as Luis Suarez and could spur his side to a title.

Ronaldo is also being encouraged by his partner, Rodriguez, who prefers a return to life in Spain, and more specifically, in Madrid, where her and Ronaldo spent the early parts of their relationship.

Ronaldo and Rodriguez met each other in late 2016, and have two children together, and would feel comfortable with a return to the Spanish capital soon.

Despite Ronaldo’s wish to leave the club, Manchester United have been adamant on keeping their player, and manager Erik ten Hag has even said the Portuguese is in his plans for the upcoming season.

Ronaldo has been disappointed with United’s drop in standards, and wishes to continue playing Champions League football for the remaining days of his career, which is not possible in the upcoming season at Old Trafford.
