‘The Antony to Man Utd story is over’
Manchester United’s tough transfer window is going to get worse as it’s almost certain that Antony is set to stay at Ajax this summer.
The Red Devils have been interested in bringing the Brazilian over to Old Trafford, but have been priced out in a move for the player on several occasions.
Erik ten Hag was keen on reuniting with Antony in England, having seen him develop so well over the years when they were together with the reigning Dutch champions.
However, Ajax have demanded big fees – as much as €100 million at one point – as they’re adamant he’s one of the club’s stars and would not let him go easily.
Antony set to stay at Ajax
Manchester United have already engaged with Ajax over a transfer before this summer, first for Ten Hag, then for centre-back Lisandro Martinez, who moved for a €57 million fee.
Now, De Telegraaf reporter Mike Verweij writes that Manchester United’s pursuit of Antony is set to end in disappointment, as the Brazilian is comfortable with life in the Netherlands.
“I believe Antony is no longer an option for Manchester United and that Antony himself would think twice before deciding to join Manchester United now, especially when you see with how much joy he plays at Ajax.

“The Manchester United and Antony story seems over,” he continued, adding that Ajax were set to keep their star man, who has had a good start to the season.
Antony had a starring role in Ajax’s home league opener against Groningen at the weekend, dazzling supporters with his skills and adding to it with a goal and assist.
It was a performance that showed why Ajax were demanding such a big fee for him – his quality and output from the wing is excellent and he is a great attribute for the team as they look to challenge on all fronts this season.
Additionally, the high turnover in the Ajax squad meant that they wanted to keep their core players together, and Antony is one of its most important aspects.
