Casemiro’s imminent transfer to Manchester United has unsurprisingly sparked high emotions at Real Madrid.

After spending nine years at the Bernabeu club, Man Utd announced on Friday that they have agreed a deal in principle to sign the 30-year-old midfielder.

It is a huge decision for Casemiro to make. United, after all, will not play Champions League football this season and already face an uphill battle to finish in the top four this time around. He is leaving a club where he has picked up that famous trophy on five occasions.

Having been integral to Real Madrid’s success over his stay, he will be given a fond goodbye.

Head coach Carlo Ancelotti was respectful of the player’s decision to depart, explaining in his Friday press conference that everything was conducted on amicable terms.

Meanwhile, the response from around the squad appear in the same tone. Fede Valverde’s girlfriend, for example, sent Casemiro a tongue-in-cheek WhatsApp message that translates to: “Don’t go, you s**t a**hole!”

Luka Modric chipped in on Instagram: "What a journey! We had a lot of fun and we made history together. Will miss you, my friend."

Casemiro says goodbye to Real Madrid

Casemiro, who played 336 matches for Los Blancos and scored 31 goals in the process, has posted an emotional message on Instagram to say goodbye to the Spanish club.

He said: “I have lived through the most wonderful story that I ever thought was possible. I hope to return one day to the place that will always be my home. Not in a thousand lifetimes will I be able to give back to Real Madrid all that it has given me. Forever… Hala Madrid!”

Casemiro will not be available to feature in Manchester United’s Premier League match against Liverpool on Monday, but he will hope to make his debut for his new club the following weekend, when they face Southampton at St Mary’s.
