The Red Devils had identified Casemiro as their latest defensive midfield target after pulling the plug on a move for Adrien Rabiot and the 30-year-old is said to be keen on the switch.

While Real Madrid are not keen on selling the Brazilian, they have said they won't stand in his way if he wants to leave, as the player is intrigued by the offer he has been presented.

United are desperate to strengthen their squad after their disastrous start to the Premier League season and want to sign Casemiro before their next game against Liverpool.

The club have reportedly offered to double the midfielder's wages on a five-year contract and United are believed to be willing to pay around €65 million in order to quickly close the deal.

Have United just solved their midfield issue?

United have prioritised a midfielder after suffering humiliating back-to-back defeats in their first two games which has left them bottom of the Premier League for the first time in 30 years.

Erik ten Hag also wants to bring in up to four more players, with a backup goalkeeper, a right-back, a winger and a striker on the shopping list before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

The club were in advanced talk with Rabiot but the Juventus midfielder's wage demands proved to be too high and United opted to pursue other options.

Although Casemiro wasn't considered to be a target initially for United, the club were encouraged to make an offer by the player's agent and he is now ready to accept their proposal.

Casemiro is believed to want a new challenge after winning 18 trophies in nine years at Madrid and feels that this is his last opportunity to get a long-term, lucrative contract.

The player also found himself on the bench for Real's opening La Liga game, with new signing Aurelien Tchouameni preferred, perhaps foreshadowing the future for Casemiro in Madrid.

With United's urgency to get a deal done and the player's desire to join, it is believed the transfer could be concluded in a matter of days.
