Chelsea could potentially face competition for Brighton defender Adam Webster should they elect to move for him before the close of the summer transfer window, with Wolves also monitoring the 27-year-old.

The Blues have had a third bid turned down for Leicester’s Wesley Fofana, and it may be that they turn to the south coast club in a bid to solve their central defensive issues.

The former Ipswich and Bristol City centre-back could be a shock name to follow in the closing days of the market, CBS’ Ben Jacobs writes for FootballTransfers, although the Seagulls’ transfer stance on the player is clear.

Brighton braced for Webster fight

Adam Webster at Brighton is one player who could make a surprise move before the end of the summer.

Brighton are adamant they are not going to get rid of him. They’ve already lost Marc Cucurella to Chelsea. Pervis Estupinan has come in kind of for him at left-back, so they have got some cover, Levi Colwill is also on loan from Chelsea, so you could argue that they’ve got a bit of depth, but I really don’t think that Brighton want to sell him.

There are a few clubs that are very interested in him, and he could be one to watch.

Even though it’s widely believed that Chelsea might use him as a Wesley Fofana back up, don’t be surprised if Wolves enter the fray for Webster. That might be down to a scenario where Wolves pull in some money for Pedro Neto, who is wanted by Arsenal, and they may have the opportunity to strengthen defensively. They’ve obviously let Conor Coady go to Everton.

Brighton’s stance, to be clear, is that they won’t entertain any bids and that they don’t want to sell. But he’s 27, he’s starting at the moment for Brighton, could they be wavered by a possible sell if a club like Wolves or Chelsea the last minute came in?

That’s one to watch between now and the close of the window.
