Chelsea loanee Romelu Lukaku could play a role in paving the way for Trevoh Chalobah to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

Lukaku, 29, has re-joined Inter Milan on a one-year loan deal after a disappointing campaign back at Chelsea in the 2021-22 season, and the Belgian could help another of the Blues' stars leave this summer.

Chalobah, 22, hasn't featured in Chelsea's opening two Premier League fixtures and has subsequently been linked with a loan move away.

The Blues are still in the hunt for Leicester City's Wesley Fofana, with their pursuit of the Frenchman given a boost by news that he's asked to be left out of the Foxes' squad to face Southampton this weekend.

As a result, it appears Chelsea are willing to let Chalobah go, despite the fact that the Englishman played a vast amount last season and could be a useful asset for Tuchel. Even with the arrivals of Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucurella and potentially Fofana, there is still space for Chalobah at Chelsea.

Malang Sarr, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen all aren't at the club this season, while captain Cesar Azpilicueta is now 32 and is no longer his former self.

But, it seems as though the Blues are willing to let Chalobah head out on loan to increase his game time this campaign.

Chalobah to Inter?

According to The Evening Standard's Chelsea correspondent Nizaar Kinsella, Lukaku has personally recommended Chalobah to Inter's hierarchy, and this has led to the Serie A giants expressing an interest in signing the Englishman this summer.

It's believed that Chalobah remains happy at Chelsea, but this may reportedly change if the Blues are able to sign Fofana from Leicester this summer.

Chelsea have already dealt with Inter on multiple occasions this window, with Lukaku joining the San Siro side on loan, and young midfielder Cesare Casadei completing his permanent move the other way on 19 August.
