Casemiro comments prove Ronaldo will love Man Utd's new signing
Cristiano Ronaldo will be joined at Manchester United by another former Real Madrid team-mate when Casemiro's move to Old Trafford is officially completed.
Raphael Varane, who played with both Ronaldo at Casemiro at Santiago Bernabeu, is already at Man Utd, and Casemiro will join the pair after Man Utd agreed a fee with Real Madrid.
The Brazilian will be unveiled as a Man Utd player in the coming days after personal terms are agreed, UK visa requirements are met and his medical is completed.
Casemiro will become the first defensive midfielder to arrive through the door since his international team-mate Fred was purchased from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018, and finally provides Erik ten Hag with a solid presence at the base of midfield.
The Brazilian is Man Utd's fourth major acquisition of the summer after the arrivals of Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen from Ajax, Feyenoord and Brentford respectively.
Furthermore, additional transfers are expected, with the Glazers prepared to give Ten Hag the funds to transform the squad via eye-catching signings in the transfer market. Frenkie de Jong, Antony and Cody Gakpo are all being targeted as the Dutch head coach looks to rectify a dismal start to the 2022-23 Premier League campaign.
Why Ronaldo will be pleased by Casemiro signing
While Cristiano Ronaldo expressed his desire to leave Old Trafford this summer, due to a lack of Champions League football, the addition of Casemiro will certainly help persuade the Portuguese star to stay put.
The midfielder has bizarrely swapped the European champions for a struggling giant who finished sixth last season, but is ready to help Man Utd recover and return to their former glories - something that should encourage Ronaldo.
Furthermore, Casemiro's comments in 2018 show that he is a huge admirer of Ronaldo, which should help their relationship on the pitch blossom.
Speaking about the award of the 2018 Ballon d'Or to Luka Modric, Casemiro said: "I think the year Luka has had has been spectacular. [But] I’d give it to Cristiano for everything he achieved last season.
"We’re always talking about him [Ronaldo] and I’ve got something I like to say which is: keep enjoying the best in the world and how he plays the game, because what he does is unbelievable. The wonder goal he scored [vs Juventus]… he’s the best in the world.
"We have to keep enjoying his football, his goals, he’s hard work and leadership in the dressing room. The longer he is with us, the better."
Ronaldo ironically left Real Madrid to join Juventus in the 2018 summer transfer window, but Casemiro will be reunited with the forward at Old Trafford.
