Leicester City have rejected offers for centre-back Jannik Vestergaard from Brentford, Valencia and a leading French club, FootballTransfers understands.

The Denmark international signed for the Foxes from Southampton a year ago for an estimated £15 million (€17.5m) but the 30-year-old has struggled to win game time under manager Brendan Rodgers.

Regarded as one of the leading centre-backs in the Premier League during his time with Saints, Vestergaard has not been involved in the matchday squad for Leicester in any of their opening four Premier League matches, which have ended in three defeats and a draw. This is despite Leicester conceding 10 goals in these games.

Vestergaard was, however, given some game time in the Carabao Cup clash against Stockport last week, in which he helped his team keep their only clean sheet of the season to date.

Furthermore, he was also involved twice with Denmark during their June international matches and started as they won away against France and Austria in the Nations League.

Vestergaard vs Premier League centre-backs: 2021/22

Despite a lack of game time last season, Vestergaard was one of the leading centre-backs in the Premier League, as the interactive graphic below from SciSports demonstrates.

Statistically, his performance closely matched Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk on an overall basis.

Despite being on the periphery of matters at Leicester, the club have knocked back several offers for Vestergaard over the summer. The first of these was a loan move from Premier League rivals Brentford, which was an offer made earlier in the transfer window.

Subsequently, Valencia and an unnamed Ligue 1 side tried to broker a loan only to be knocked back because Leicester will only accept a permanent move at a high asking price.

According to sources contacted by FootballTransfers, the King Power Stadium club are seeking to recoup as much of their initial outlay on the player as possible.

Although Verstagaard has not even been on the bench in the Premier League this season, Leicester have been inflexible on making a deal work.
