Ajax and Brazil winger Antony has pleaded with his current club to let him go amid intense transfer interest from Manchester United.

Antony has become a top target at Old Trafford during the latter stages of the summer transfer window.

Having already lost several stars over the last two months, however, Ajax have been steadfast in their refusal to sell.

Two bids worth €60 million and €80m have already been turned down by the Eredivisie giants, and a new approach of €90m from the Red Devils looks set to meet the same fate.

Now the Brazil international has taken the extreme step of publicly stating his wish to leave as soon as possible.

'I'm asking Ajax to sell me'

"I'm not asking Ajax to release me, I'm asking Ajax to sell me with the highest bid ever for an Eredivisie player," Antony fired to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.

"I've been insisting on this theme since February so that the club could rebuild the team with peace of mind".

"Today, in a meeting with the club, I expressed my old interest in leaving, only this time with a considerable offer on the table.

"Others had already arrived! Ajax refused with argument that they only have 5 days to replace me."

In a meeting held on Friday between the player, his management team and Ajax representatives, both sides stood firm in their respective postures.

Antony is determined to force a move, while his club are equally insistent that he is a key part of their plans for the 2022-23 season.

And with less than a week to go before the transfer window closes it remains to be seen whether Ajax will finally cede to the winger's demands and allow him to link up with former boss Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.
