Manchester United have received a boost in their pursuit of Barcelona forward Memphis Depay.

The Red Devils have emerged as surprise suitors for their former player, who left Lyon back in 2017 after failing to make an impression at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag has reportedly urged the club to move immediately in order to add more depth to his forward line, with Depay available for around £8 million.

The Netherlands international had been expected to join Juventus, only for that transfer to apparently fall apart.

According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano the Italians have performed a U-turn over the forward after being close to completing a deal.

As recently as Thursday an agreement was almost in place, but while Depay did not alter his demands there has been a change of heart in Turin.

Ironically, United also had a hand in spiking his Juve transfer.

The Red Devils' capture of Casemiro ended once and for all the links with Adrien Rabiot, who was previously close to leaving Juventus for Old Trafford.

The end of those negotiations prompted the Bianconeri to re-evaluate their own transfer priorities, which are now Paris Saint-Germain's Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes and Marseille and Poland striker Arkadiusz Milik.

Milik is now expected to undergo a medical in Turin as soon as Thursday ahead of a permanent move back to Serie A, where he previously starred with Napoli, leaving Depay back at square one in his efforts to find new employment.

The forward has been informed by Barcelona that he will not be part of their first-team plans, despite moving to Camp Nou only last summer, with the club eager to see him leave in order to ease their salary burden.

Depay is keen to leave, but will not terminate his Barca contract unless he has first struck a concrete agreement with a buying club.
