Rumours have built over recent days that Man Utd could complete the signing of the 30-year-old Brazil international for Los Blancos, with a fee of around €80 million touted.

Casemiro trained with his Real Madrid team-mates on Friday, but after Ancelotti admitted that the player wants to try his luck elsewhere, it may well prove to be one of his last outings with the Champions League winners.

Speaking to the press, the Italian said: “We’ve spoken this morning. He wants to try a new challenge, a new opportunity. I understand this, also the club does.”

Casemiro is now expected to represent Manchester United's fourth major signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez.

The deal is a major win for manager Erik ten Hag, who has struggled to land his major targets this summer, including Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who Man Utd had persuaded for many weeks before turning their attentions to Casemiro.

It has been reported that the Brazilian will sign a bumper contract with the Old Trafford side, which will see him under contract until 2027, by which time he will be 35.

What will Casemiro bring to Man Utd?

Casemiro will bring many valuable attributes with him from Madrid. He remains one of La Liga's foremost ball winners and is rated as the best holding midfielder in the world by FootballTransfers.

He also possesses a long history of success. While with Madrid, he has won three La Liga titles and five Champions Leagues among a long list of trophies.

He will notably team up with former Real Madrid colleague Cristiano Ronaldo, who will surely appreciate the qualities that the South American will bring to the Red Devils.

Previous reports had suggested Man Utd wanted a deal done before the weekend, but despite Ancelotti's words, it will be tough for them to push it through so quickly.
