How much would Cody Gakpo cost Man Utd?
Manchester United have identified PSV winger Gody Gakpo as an alternative to Antony, and could make a move for him before the end of the transfer window.
The Red Devils were interested in bringing over the Brazilian from Ajax, but saw an €80 million proposal rejected, as the Amsterdam club wanted to keep hold of their star talent.
As a result, they’ve had to identify other targets, and according to The Athletic, Gakpo and Atletico Madrid’s Yannick Carrasco are two players they are targeting as realistic options ahead of the end of the window.
PSV, though, won’t back down easily and will make negotiations difficult, as Gakpo is their best talent and they’ll want to get the biggest fee possible for him, especially if they miss out on the Champions League.
PSV will demand 'top fee'
It’s unlikely that a sale will be completed before PSV’s Champions League play-off tie against Rangers, which will come to a close on Wednesday, August 24.
That tie is level at 2-2, and the winner will qualify for the group stages of Europe’s premier club competition, which will determine prize money, and, ultimately, how much a club would have to pay for Gakpo.
According to reports in England, Gakpo is set to cost any interested club a fee of around €35 million, which would be a good price for the player named Dutch Footballer of the Year last season.

However, that reported price is slightly more inflated in the Netherlands, who say PSV will demand a top fee – around €45 million to €50 million, according to Eindhoven-based paper Eindhoven Dagblad.
PSV will have seen Manchester United’s approach for Antony and identified that they’re capable of forking out a big fee for a player they desire to have, and will raise their asking price as a result.
According to reports in England, along with Manchester United, other Premier League clubs are also interested in the Dutch attacker, such as Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Arsenal.
