What is PSV's transfer stance on Man Utd target Cody Gakpo
Cody Gakpo is one of the brightest talents in the Eredivisie, and he’s made a fine start to the season to back up his talent, with more to come in the coming months.
The Dutch winger enters this season on the back of an excellent campaign, where he scored 21 goals and provided 15 assists despite missing the opening weeks of the season, proving why he’s chased by Europe’s top clubs.
He’s also a full Dutch international and is likely to be on the plane to Qatar for the World Cup, and was also named Dutch Footballer of the Year for last season.
The 23-year-old has been linked to the likes of Arsenal and Everton over the summer, while Manchester United have recently identified him as an alternative for Antony in the final weeks of the window.
PSV await Champions League result
It’s clear to see why clubs are interested in Gakpo: he’s young, and he’s showing qualities beyond his years, while he’s fairly cheap to get, with the reported fee being around £40 million.
However, that fee may rise, depending on the next few weeks at PSV and how they progress in the Champions League, as they hope to make the group stages.
The club are under new management with former forward Ruud van Nistelrooy taking charge, and they’ve made a strong start to the season, winning the Johan Cruyff Shield as well as their opening Eredivisie game.

PSV are now focused on the Champions League, where they will face Monaco in the third qualifying rounds, with scores level at 1-1 after the first leg.
Qualifying will encourage perhaps encourage PSV to keep Gakpo for another season and plan their campaign around him, raising the chance to get a higher fee for him in a year’s time.
The player is also content with staying in Eindhoven, and hasn’t expressed any desire to depart with a good project being built around him this season as they look to challenge Ajax for the domestic title.
They’ve recently extended the contract of one of their other stars – Ibrahim Sangare – and that may encourage Gakpo to stay and fight on all fronts with PSV.
Lots of clubs are interested in the PSV star, but there are plenty of factors in play here, with a move by the end of the window looking difficult to complete.
