PSV Eindhoven star Ibrahim Sangare has urged team-mate Cody Gakpo to reject transfer interest and stay at the Eredivisie club this season.

Sangare, 24, signed a new five-year deal at PSV in August, keeping him contracted to the club until 2027, and is keen for Dutch international Gakpo to stay at the club.

The 23-year-old forward was linked to Arsenal earlier in the transfer window, and Erik ten Hag's Manchester United have now taken serious interest in Gakpo, with their forward line in need of reinforcements.

Gakpo, who contributed 25 goals and assists in 27 league games for PSV last season, is now deemed a viable option for Man Utd, according to The Telegraph, with the club open to the idea of signing yet more talent from the Eredivisie after the additions of Lisandro Martinez from Ajax and Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord.

However, his current team-mate Sangare, who was linked with a move to both Chelsea and Man Utd before signing his new deal, wants Gakpo to stay where he is.

"It would be great for me if he [Gakpo] stays," Sangare was quoted as saying by Dutch magazine Voetbal International.

"Cody is someone I deeply appreciate. He is an important player, so it would be great if he stays."

Gakpo's contract situation

The good news for PSV is that Gakpo's current deal isn't set to expire until 2026. As a result, they are in a great negotiating position, with a sale not needed unless an appropriate offer comes in for his services.

After coming through the youth set-up at PSV, Gakpo burst onto the scene last season, three years after making his first-team debut.

With PSV aware that interest would follow his impressive form, they tied him down to a new contract in January 2022, so Gakpo may have to stay at PSV for a little while longer before a move to a big league comes to fruition.
