Man Utd turn attentions to latest transfer target
The whirlwind of transfer rumours around Manchester United shows no sign of slowing down, as yet another target has resurfaced towards the end of the summer window.
United have been linked to a bewildering array of players over the past two months, but concrete activity in the market has been frustratingly limited for the club.
Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen remain their sole confirmed signings, and a disastrous start to the Premier League season has only heightened the Reds' need for fresh blood before the window slams shut.
There may be good news on the horizon, though, according to the Telegraph.
While United's shock bid for Casemiro gains momentum, with a £60 million move possible in the coming days, the club is also closing on another target.
Gakpo heading for Old Trafford?
PSV winger Cody Gakpo was linked to Old Trafford earlier in the window and now that interest has been refloated, with United looking to close a transfer worth £34m for the 23-year-old Netherlands international.
Given their track record over the window, though, United are also bracing for a possible rebuff after missing out on the likes of Frenkie de Jong and Adrien Rabiot in a chaotic transfer period.
Atletico Madrid's Yannick Carrasco has been floated as an alternative to Gakpo should the deal not go through.
Gakpo made his PSV debut as a teenager back in 2018 and has since blossomed into one of the Eredivisie's most accomplished young talents.
The player has scored 45 goals in 141 appearances for the Dutch side, and is comfortable playing on the left wing and also in a more central role, potentially providing United with much-needed versatility in their short-handed forward line.
