The Man Utd star destined to leave if Antony deal is done
Manchester United are going to spend the final days of the window attempting to get winger Antony from Ajax in what is becoming a complicated situation for all parties involved.
The Red Devils have long maintained interest in the Brazilian winger, with Erik ten Hag keen to reunite with the 22-year-old at Old Trafford before the transfer deadline.
Manchester United have seen €80 million and €90 million bids for the player rejected in recent weeks, with Ajax believed to want a fee close to €100 million for Antony.
Should he arrive, though, it could signal the end of another player’s Manchester United career, as competition for places in the Red Devils’ attack will increase.
Antony in, Elanga out?
The transfer window ends in the coming week and United are still debating whether to bump up their bid for Antony or look at other options, but another deal could be in the works for one of their players.
That comes in the form of Anthony Elanga, who could leave Old Trafford on loan, should Antony arrive from Ajax in the coming days.
Elanga has been a regular feature in the first-team since last season, with Ralf Rangnick being a fan of the player and giving him opportunities in the team.
The Swede could make a Premier League loan move, with Everton showing interest as they look to bolster their own attacking options before the transfer deadline.
▫️ How do you feel about the club?
▪️ Excl. Antony: "I was very happy in Amsterdam, I won titles at Ajax, made friends and built part of my career, but now I REINFORCE that I am ready and full of motivation to follow my story and my dreams". pic.twitter.com/n0j39VcPJE— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) August 26, 2022
Elanga has been impressing in his time with Manchester United this season, starting in consecutive matches against Liverpool and Southampton and generally doing well.
However, he could be allowed to leave if the club make any other signings and competition for places increases, despite United being short in attack regardless of further additions.
Antony may not be the only attacking signing the club make, with Ten Hag keeping an eye on Cody Gakpo of PSV as well, with the hope of bringing him over to Old Trafford.
A loan spell away could do Elanga favours as he’ll get the chance to impress even further with regular first-team football and prove he can be a part of Manchester United’s first-team.
