Inter's Skriniar & Dumfries transfer deadline for Chelsea & Man Utd
Inter are seeking to hurry along transfers for Milan Skriniar, who is wanted by Chelsea and PSG, and Denzel Dumfries, who has been closely linked with a switch to Manchester United.
With the finances of the Serie A club in a relatively weak state, both are potentially on the market – but only at the right price.
Indeed, it is unclear whether Inter might have to sell both of their defensive strongmen. It is clear, however, they would prefer just to sell one if their bank balance allows.
According to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport, the Nerazzurri want the situation tidied up before the Serie A season begins on 13 August. To that end, they have told suitors for the players that they must conclude any deals before then.
Skriniar’s transfer status
Although Skriniar’s deal expires in 2023, Inter are in a strong negotiating position with their central defensive ace because he has a strong relationship with the club and is willing to sign a new contract – even if a transfer does not materialise this summer.
PSG are thought to still be in the market for another centre-back, despite signing Nordi Mukiele from RB Leipzig, while there is little doubt that Chelsea need central defenders after their move for Sevilla’s Jules Kounde was hijacked late on by Barcelona.
Dumfries to depart?
Denzel Dumfries only joined Inter last summer from PSV but the Netherlands international has proven to be a hit in Serie A. The right-back has caught the eye of several Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, who FootballTransfers can confirm have on their shortlist in the right-back role.
Certainly, Erik ten Hag is known to want an additional player in that position and Dumfries fits the bill of the type of dynamic figure that he loves. Man Utd have been painfully slow in acting in the transfer window this summer, so it remains to be seen if they can get a deal over the line in a couple of weeks.
Chelsea have also been linked with Dumfries in recent days, although a move to Old Trafford appears to be likelier at this stage.
In any case, Inter’s stance is a rather classic one, and the San Siro futures of Skriniar and Dumfries will not be certain until the transfer deadline has passed.
