Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has resorted to showing his charges clips of their Premier League rivals' success in a desperate bid to improve the club's flagging fortunes.

Ten Hag has endured a nightmare start to his tenure at Old Trafford.

A frustrating summer which has seen most of the manager's transfer targets stay away from United has been followed by consecutive defeats to begin the Premier League campaign in the worst possible way.

United sit bottom of the Premier League after going down to Brighton and Brentford and must now try to get something against arch-rivals to avoid the crisis deepening with just three games of the season played.

Apparently willing to try anything, the Dutchman is therefore taking desperate measures.

According to the Sun, United training sessions as of late include video footage of Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool.

Ten Hag himself compiled the clips in order to show his under-performing players how it is done, part of a hard-line approach to practice he has implemented in the wake of those defeats.

"I was definitely not happy and in football you can talk about football, you can talk about planning our philosophy but the basic stuff has to be good, and that starts with the right attitude," he told reporters earlier this week.

"So you need a fighting spirit on the pitch and I didn't see that from minute one."

Last Saturday's 4-0 drubbing was followed by a gruelling running session the very next day, while the squad was told that their performance was an "embarrassment" and that they must stop feeling sorry for themselves.

The manager is said to be extremely concerned with his players' physical conditioning, vital in order to play the high pressing game he favours, and has warned there will be plenty of late nights at the training ground until he sees an improvement.
