Tottenham and Roma join the race to sign Chelsea defender Chalobah
Tottenham Hotspur and Roma are the latest teams to express an interest in Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah, according to reports.
The Englishman is yet to appear for the Blues in the 2022-23 season, with Cesar Azpilicueta and Reece James preferred to him in the opening two Premier League fixtures of the season.
Furthermore, Chelsea's pursuit of Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana, who was left out of the Foxes' defeat to Southampton due to his transfer speculation, has reportedly left Chalobah's future known.
While the Englishman was a favourite in the early stages of last season, he's made just 10 starts out of a possible 33 matches in 2022, and is considering whether a move would be a good idea.
Thomas Tuchel's said are reportedly prepared to pay a world-record fee for a defender in order to land Fofana this summer, and signing him may leave Chalobah in the cold.
Despite the exits of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen on free transfers and Malang Sarr on loan, there may not be a place in the Chelsea squad for Chalobah if Fofana arrives, which has left him questioning his future at the club, according to The Evening Standard's Nizaar Kinsella.
The player reportedly has concerns over his game-time for the upcoming season, which has led to reports of a potential exit, either on loan or on a permanent deal.
Chelsea loanee Romelu Lukaku, who will spend the 2022-23 season back at Inter after a disappointing time at Stamford Bridge last campaign, has personally recommended Chalobah to the Italian giants, who could yet lose Milan Skriniar this window, despite a desire to keep hold of him.
Tottenham and Roma join the hunt
In addition to Inter, Chalobah has now received transfer interest from both Tottenham and Roma, according to The Evening Standard.
His current deal at Chelsea doesn't expire until 2026, meaning the Blues are in a strong position to negotiate if Chalobah wants to leave permanently. Therefore, a loan may be more likely if he is to depart this summer.
