The Gunners spent much of the summer chasing Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans before shifting their focus to Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz on the final day of the transfer window.

Arsenal spent their money on other targets, and brought in players like Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabio Vieira, amongst other players over the window.

However, according to some reports, there are already signs they need to strengthen their midfield and they are already considering a January move for some targets.

Arsenal looking at January targets

The Gunners are thin in midfield following injuries to some of their players, and may have to spend in the transfer market later in the season to make up for the lost numbers.

Villa resisted interest from Arsenal for Luiz, rejecting three offers from the Gunners for their Brazilian midfielder as they looked for a big fee that late in the window.

Despite Luiz being in the final year of his contract and showing no intent on extending his stay at Villa Park, Steven Gerrard was eager to keep hold of his man.

For Tielemans, meanwhile, there have been discussions over the Belgian’s future for a while, but Arsenal have never launched a formal offer for the player despite widespread appreciation for him within the club.

He too, is in the final year of his contract, and there is plenty of interest in him from the Premier League and abroad having built a solid reputation in recent times.

According to Give Me Sport, Arsenal could return for the duo as early as the January transfer window as the Gunners look to push for Champions League qualification.

They haven’t played in Europe’s top club cup competition since 2017 and having made a positive start to the season, they will want to build on that and qualify for the Champions League.
