Arsenal transfers: Every signing and sale for 2022-23
Arsenal were once again busy in the 2022 summer transfer window, arming Mikel Arteta with a squad capable of challenging for the top four places in the Premier League – and perhaps even putting a run together for the title.
Having improved their team year-on-year for the last couple of seasons, this Arsenal squad looks as good a unit as the club have had for quite some time and optimism around the Emirates Stadium is high after a strong start to the campaign.
But what business have they done exactly?
What players have Arsenal signed in 2022-23?
Player | From | Fee |
---|---|---|
Gabriel Jesus | Man City | £45m |
Oleksandr Zinchenko | Man City | £31.5m |
Fabio Vieira | Porto | £31.5m |
Matt Turner | New England | £5.7m |
Marquinhos | Sao Paulo | £3m |
Jakub Kiwior | Spezia | £21m |
Leandro Trossard | Brighton | £27m |
Jorginho | Chelsea | £12m |
Arsenal prioritised quality over quantity in the summer transfer window, adding just five players to Arteta’s squad. They did their business early in the window, which meant that they got good value for their buys.
Gabriel Jesus was their biggest signing of the summer from Manchester City, arriving for £45 million. His former Etihad colleague Oleksandr Zinchenko would later make a £31.5m move, which is the same fee that the Gunners paid Porto to sign Fabio Vieira.
Matt Turner arrived from New England for £5.7m while young Brazilian Marquinhos joined up from Santos for £3m in a deal that was done with an eye to the future.
They bolstered further this winter, adding Jakub Kiwior, Jorginho and Leandro Trossard, giving them further depth in defence, midfield and atack.
What players have Arsenal sold in 2022-23?
Player | To | Fee |
---|---|---|
Matteo Guendouzi | Marseille | £9m |
Lucas Torreira | Galatasaray | £5.5m |
Bernd Leno | Fulham | £3.2m |
Konstantinos Mavropanos | Stuttgart | £2.7m |
Alexandre Lacazette | Lyon | Free |
Hector Bellerin | Barcelona | Free |
Arsenal did not do much business in terms of sales. Indeed, the only player who was a member of their squad for the whole of last term to be sold was backup goalkeeper Bernd Leno, who joined Fulham for £3.2 million.
Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira and Konstantinos Mavropanos, meanwhile, were all loaned out last season. Guendouzi left for Marseille for £9m in Arsenal’s biggest summer sale.
Hector Bellerin, meanwhile, was released from his contract to join Barcelona, while Alexandre Lacazette’s deal expired, meaning he left on a free transfer to Lyon.
What players have Arsenal loaned in 2022-23?
Arsenal have worked at getting some senior players off their books this summer by loaning them out. A good example is Nicolas Pepe, who has gone back to Ligue 1 with Nice after a disappointing spell at the club. He has taken a big pay cut in order to do so.
Defenders Pablo Mari, Nuno Tavares, Auston Trusty have been loaned out to Monza, Marseille and Birmingham respectively, while midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles is at Southampton. Alex Runarsson has gone to Alanyaspor in Turkey after falling to third choice at best in goal.
This winter saw three players leave on loan in Albert Sambi Lokonga, Marquinhos and Cedric Soares.
What is Arsenal's net spend in 2022-23?
Arsenal made a net spend of £96.3m in the 2022 summer transfer window.
In the winter window it was a further £60m.
