Chelsea are interested in the signing of Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz, who is attracting plenty of interest from several Premier League clubs over the last few months.

The Blues ended the window interested in the likes of Ajax’s Edson Alvarez and PSV’s Ibrahim Sangare, before settling on the signing of Denis Zakaria on loan from Liverpool.

Now, Chelsea want to make a permanent signing and Luiz could represent a good option as he is out of contract at the end of the season, with a January move possible.

Chelsea, now under Graham Potter’s management following the sacking of Thomas Tuchel almost two weeks ago, want to properly address their midfield situation in the coming transfer windows.

Luiz has plenty of interest

Luiz has been a mainstay in Aston Villa’s first team over the last few years, and is usually reliable with his fitness, proving why the club were keen to keep hold of him in the summer.

They rejected three bids from Arsenal in the final days of the window, full well knowing they could lose him for nothing in a year’s time, showing how much Steven Gerrard and the club value him.

Now, having invested plenty in defence and in attack, Chelsea want to improve in midfield, especially as their current options in that area aren’t getting any younger.

Both Jorginho and N’Golo Kante are in the final years of their contracts and have been facing fitness issues, leaving Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek as the only options in midfield.

The 24-year-old Luiz is also of interest to other Premier League sides such as Liverpool, who are also thin in midfield due to various injury issues and youthfulness in that area.

There could be a battle for Luiz’s signature in the January transfer window, and given the suitors he has, it seems likely he will be playing European football next season.
