Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has not experienced anything like the last few weeks in his long career.

Aubameyang departed Barcelona to be reunited with Thomas Tuchel, who coached him at Borussia Dortmund, at Chelsea. Shortly before the move, though, Aubameyang was assaulted in his own home, with his jaw left broken. He has recovered more quickly than expected from that setback but just days after arriving in London, he saw Tuchel sacked in a shock move by the Blues.

On the field, meanwhile, things have not gone according to plan. Chelsea have struggled, losing to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League before following that up with a 1-1 draw at home under Graham Potter, who was appointed as Tuchel’s replacement late last week.

“It’s been a crazy few weeks,” Aubameyang admitted when talking to AS. “It’s part of life, you have to adapt. Right now, it’s a bit sad but we hope to get back to better days.

“I’m going to need more time to get back to full fitness. I’m not 100% fine. Obviously it’s not easy to play with a mask and an injury, but let’s hope that I’ll recover to be 100% as soon as possible.”

Aubameyang thanks Barca fans

When asked if he had a message for Barcelona, he simply said: “Nothing special. I’ve left and now I’m obviously focused on Chelsea. I had some great times there and I want to thank the fans because they gave me a lot of love.”

Aubameyang played only eight competitive minutes for Barcelona this season, given a cameo on the opening day of the season against Rayo Vallecano.

The Gabon international striker, meanwhile, has started both Champions League matches for Chelsea and was credited with an assist on Raheem Sterling’s opener against RB Salzburg on Tuesday.
