Tammy Abraham has been in excellent form for Roma over the last year, with the English forward being a shining light for Jose Mourinho’s team.

Abraham moved to the Italian capital in the summer of 2021 in the search of more game time, having struggled to get that at Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel.

The move has proven to be a successful one so far for the Englishman, as he spurred Roma on to a Europa Conference League win last season – the Italian side’s first-ever European trophy.

Now, there have been rumours of a return to English football, with several top Premier League sides interested in Abraham, including Chelsea, who could have an advantage in this scenario.

Chelsea have option on Abraham

When Chelsea sold Abraham to Roma, there were questions by fans, who felt he was perfectly capable of contributing to the team and leading the line.

Chelsea were also aware of his talents, having seen him shine for periods of Frank Lampard’s tenure in 2019-20, and as a result, they included a buy-back clause when they sold him to the Serie A club.

That gives them first refusal if Roma are to sell him at any point in the future, however, the fee Chelsea will have to fork out will be quite high, making him one of their biggest-ever transfers.

It’s reported that the buy-back clause is worth €80 million and the Blues can activate it in the summer of 2023, which is double of what they sold him for last year.

Chelsea are in the market for a long-term forward, having sold Timo Werner and loaned out Romelu Lukaku this summer, and bringing in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on a deadline day deal from Barcelona.

Co-owner Todd Boehly hasn’t been afraid to splash the cash in his first transfer window, bringing in nine players and being the summer’s highest spenders out of any club in Europe.
