Crystal Palace are keen to sign midfielder Conor Gallagher from Chelsea, and will be looking to make a move for him in the January transfer window.

Gallagher played at Selhurst Park in the 2021-22 season, while he was there on loan from Chelsea, and he generally impressed, even making his way to the England squad.

Palace were eager to sign the player permanently this summer, but Chelsea were adamant on keeping him, with Blues’ boss Thomas Tuchel suggesting he had him in his plans for the 2022-23 season.

So far, Gallagher has made his Chelsea debut and played matches, but Palace are still keeping an eye on the situation and will make a move if matters change.

Palace willing to spend for Gallagher

Crystal Palace are willing to pay about £20 million for Gallagher, plus any relevant add-ons, which is the fee that has been quoted several times throughout the summer.

Across the window, Gallagher was linked to a host of clubs, including West Ham United, Newcastle United, Leicester City and others, but he has remained at Crystal Palace.

At Palace last season, Gallagher amassed a total of eight goals and five assists in 39 appearances and was a favourite of manager Patrick Vieira, who often expressed his admiration of the player.

In his five appearances for Chelsea so far this season, only two have been from the start – including a 3-0 defeat against Leeds – and he has even been sent off once in a match against Leicester.

The midfielder has only played a total of 157 minutes this season, but could make his Champions League debut in midweek when Chelsea travel to Croatia to face Dinamo Zagreb.

Gallagher joined Chelsea as an eight-year-old and has risen through the ranks since, even having loan spells at the likes of Swansea City and West Bromwich Albion to boost his development.
