Ronaldo has had a complicated start to the 2022-23 campaign, having started just one game for Manchester United all season – a 4-0 defeat to Brentford in August.

He’s been a substitute in Manchester United’s four game winning-run, including in successes over Liverpool and Arsenal in recent weeks, as his side are just three points off the top of the table.

There have been some doubts over his form ahead of the World Cup, as Portugal rely heavily on him for goals and will need it in time for world football’s showpiece event.

Figo confident about Ronaldo form

Figo is confident Ronaldo will come good, and feels his professionalism will be a great asset for this talented Portugal side in Qatar this winter.

He said: "Nobody has doubts about Cristiano Ronaldo’s quality, delivery and professionalism. I’m sure he’ll perform at the World Cup in the best possible conditions, I don’t know what those conditions will be.

"But without a doubt, due to his quality and his great professionalism, I think Portugal can be calm about what it can give to the national team."

Ronaldo spent much of the summer wishing to leave Manchester United, telling the club about his desire soon after the end of the 2021-22 season, where his side finished sixth in the Premier League.

He wanted to play at a club where he could regularly compete for trophies and take part in the Champions League in the final years of his career, something he felt wasn’t possible at Manchester United.

A move could not be possible as there wasn’t a firm offer coming in for him, and he is now set to play in the Europa League, something he hasn’t done since his days as a teenager at his first club, Sporting.

So far this campaign, he has played second fiddle to Marcus Rashford as Manchester United’s forward, with the Englishman enjoying a fine start to the campaign.
