Man Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea monitoring Mbappe's PSG situation

Kylian Mbappe could leave Paris Saint-Germain next summer, just one year after signing a bumper new contract, with a host of Europe’s top clubs circling.

The Frenchman rejected Real Madrid to pen a new deal at PSG that would see him earn a salary of around €250 million across three seasons, however it has since been reported that the final year of the contract is a player option.

It means that Mbappe will only have one year guaranteed left on his contract next summer, a situation which could force PSG’s hand if Mbappe indicates he wishes to leave.

According to a report in L’Equipe, Mbappe and PSG agreed during negotiations that they would maintain an open and direct dialogue over the 23-year-old’s thoughts to avoid any sagas in the future.

While there have been no issues thus far, there is an understanding that a decision will be made by January 2024 over Mbappe’s plans, with Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea all monitoring the situation.

What does the future hold for Mbappe?

Mbappe signed his new deal at PSG with the firm desire that the club would win the Champions League and also allow him to play at the upcoming World Cup and the 2024 Olympics, which will be held in Paris, although a decision on his future will have been made before then.

However, while there is naturally substantial interest from Premier League clubs, Mbappe is still believed to be holding out for a move to Real Madrid and there is a belief by some that he could join them as early as next summer.

Mbappe recently hinted at joining Madrid one day, telling the New York Times: “You never know what is going to happen. I’ve never been there, but it seems like it’s my home or something like that.”

Several reports have suggested that Mbappe agreed to stay in France for a further year in order to compete at the World Cup as a PSG player.

With France considered favourites for the tournament, there is a significant PR advantage of a PSG player lifting the World Cup in Qatar due to the club’s ownership.
