Man Utd face Premier League competition for Cody Gakpo in January
Manchester United, Southampton and Everton remain keen on PSV forward Cody Gakpo and could make a move during the January transfer window, FootballTransfers understands.
The Dutchman is having another superb campaign in the Eredivisie, following on from the drawn-out saga in which he was linked with a Premier League move in the summer.
FootballTransfers is told that the same clubs who registered interest in the star still remain - and this is bolstered by the player’s fine form playing for the Netherlands and at the club level so far this season.
The 23-year-old has been in spellbinding form this campaign, scoring 10 times in 13 games in all competitions.
There is an expectancy that should this form continue, Gakpo will be heading to the Premier League in January.
FootballTransfers understands that PSV want a club-record fee - which presently belongs to Hirving Lozano's €45 million move to Napoli - for one of their key players and that the price could even rise should the youngster continue on his current trajectory.
Naturally, Gakpo remains focused on his own performances at club level, with the previous transfer window having only closed a month ago.
But there will be eyes on the player during the World Cup, with representatives from those clubs keeping a close eye on his displays from now until the January transfer period.
Arsenal had inquired early in the summer too but we are told that their interest has subsided now.
It is thought that the most likely destination would be Man Utd, with manager Erik ten Hag continuing his Dutch revolution.
Gakpo ticks key boxes for Man Utd
As FootballTransfers reported over the summer, Ten Hag very much has a vision for the club in mind and that means getting rid of a significant core of players in the years ahead.
The likes of Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, among others, will be moved on.
The transition will take time but Man Utd have granted Ten Hag the license to bring those who can fulfil his blueprint going forward, with the onus on technical footballers with a high ceiling and ‘personality’.
The former Ajax boss believes that Gakpo ticks these boxes and is ready to fight the likes of Everton and Southampton to secure the attacker.
