New Chelsea manager Graham Potter wants to sign Cristiano Ronaldo in January, according to a sensational report by Todo Fichajes.

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly wanted to sign Ronaldo this summer and held a meeting with the Portuguese’s agent Jorge Mendes in July.

The deal was ready to be signed and announced but now former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel kicked up a fuss and demanded that he wasn’t bought.

Thus the transfer collapsed and Tuchel instead insisted on signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as his new striker from Barcelona.

This episode added to the tension between Boehly and Tuchel, which built up throughout the summer and eventually contributed to the German’s sacking earlier this week.

Tuchel was replaced by Brighton manager Graham Potter and, according to Fichajes, the new boss is happy to sign Ronaldo in January.

Ronaldo could join Chelsea

Thus, the chances of Ronaldo moving to Stamford Bridge when the transfer window reopens in the new year are good.

Ronaldo is no longer a first-team player at Man Utd under manager Erik ten Hag and has started from the bench for the last four league games – all of which ended in wins.

The player himself is also desperate to quit Man Utd, as has been well publicised in recent weeks.

Ronaldo wants to join a club who are playing in the Champions League and capable of challenging for major titles this season.

He would jump at the chance of moving to Chelsea in January.

Ronaldo scored an impressive 24 goals in all competitions last season for Man Utd.

However, he is yet to register either a goal or assist in 2022-23. He did find the back of the net in the 1-0 Europa League defeat to Real Sociedad on Thursday but it was disallowed for offside.
