Man Utd’s six summer signings ranked
Manchester United ultimately made a big splash in the summer transfer window, signing six new players for manager Erik ten Hag.
The squad was perhaps not overhauled quite as the manager would have wished as they missed out on top target Frenkie de Jong, an additional striker and a right-back, but there is little question that the Red Devils do look stronger than they did at the end of last season.
United also spent lavishly, with a total of €238 million splashed out. It was above budget, but it was necessary to make them competitive.
But which of these signings have settled fasted and had the biggest impact on the squad?
Here’s FootballTransfers’ ranking of the new players based on their performances to date:
6. Martin Dubravka – Newcastle (loan)
Has arrived at the club as the backup goalkeeper and is unlikely to have a major role to play this season.
5. Casemiro – Real Madrid (€71m)
Of course it’s still early days in Casemiro’s Manchester United career, but he might have hoped to have won a place in the starting XI ahead of Scott McTominay by now. Nevertheless, he only arrived midway through August and must be given time to adapt after such a long and successful career with Real Madrid.
4. Antony – Ajax (€95m)
Marked his debut with Man Utd with a goal against Arsenal in the Premier League but failed to net in either Europa League match against Real Sociedad or FC Sheriff. Nevertheless, there has been plenty to be positive about with regards the Brazil international.
3. Lisandro Martinez – Ajax (€57m)
It wasn’t exactly a dream start to life at Man Utd for Lisandro Martinez as he was criticised for his part in the 4-0 defeat against Brentford, but since then he has thrived. Ten Hag has put his confidence in the Argentine ahead of Harry Maguire and results have improved, with his partnership alongside Raphael Varane already bearing fruit.
2. Tyrell Malacia – Feyenoord (€15m)
Man Utd managed to hijack Lyon’s move for the left-back and must be delighted that they did. The 22-year-old has slotted in impressively and has won his place in the starting XI when it seemed that he would only be a backup option this season. In terms of value for money, he is threatening to be one of the signings of the summer.
1. Christian Eriksen – Brentford (free)
There is little doubt that Eriksen has had the most profound impact on Manchester United this season. He has arrived from Brentford and has become the conductor of the Old Trafford midfield. Already he looks a player essential to Man Utd’s cause, chalking up a coupe of assists in eight appearances.
