Christian Eriksen has been one of Manchester United’s most impressive performers in the team’s resurgence in recent weeks after a difficult start to the season.

The Danish midfielder, who signed as a free agent having left Brentford at the end of last season, was named Man of the Match in Manchester United’s most recent win over Arsenal.

He signed for United after interest from Erik ten Hag, who he trained with at Ajax as he was recovering from his cardiac arrest, which forced his former club, Inter, to release him.

Now, the cost of signing Eriksen has been revealed, and despite him signing on a free, there was a huge fee involved to bring the former Ajax and Tottenham star over to Old Trafford.

United paid big to get Eriksen

Eriksen had interest from Tottenham and Brentford over the summer, as they looked to add another midfielder to their ranks, but United spent big to get him to Manchester.

According to Football Insider, Manchester United are paying Eriksen £200,000-a-week plus a £12million signing-on fee, and have handed him a three-year contract.

By the time he runs out of his contract, the 30-year-old will have earned £43 million, but United feel it’s worth it and it has shown in Ten Hag’s faith in the midfielder.

Eriksen has started all six of Manchester United’s league games, performing well in central midfield alongside Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay.

He was one of six summer signings made by the club, alongside Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord, Lisandro Martinez and Antony from Ajax, Casemiro from Real Madrid and Martin Dubravka on loan from Newcastle United.

There have been doubts over Eriksen’s overall fitness, but he has played at least 85 minutes in every match so far this campaign, including four full 90s.

He picked up his first goal contribution of the season for Manchester United, as he set up Marcus Rashford for a simple tap-in to extend his side’s lead over Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.
