Man Utd offered Gavi €5m deal to swoop him from Barcelona
Gavi signed a new contract earlier this week with Barcelona, ending any speculation of a move away and committing his future to the club until 2026.
The 18-year-old star had a breakthrough season with the Blaugrana in the last campaign, and signed his first professional contract with the club having become a key part of the first-team set-up.
Both Ronald Koeman and Xavi were impressed by him, and Barcelona recognised him as a future star, willing to go big to ensure he stays at the club for the long run.
They’ve even put on a €1 billion release clause in his deal to ensure he stays and back off any suitors – and there were many clubs across Europe keeping an eye on the situation over the summer.
Gavi offered massive deal by Man Utd
German giants Bayern Munich’s interest in Gavi was already well-documented, while Liverpool were another side interested in the player, looking to pounce on any situation.
According to La Vanguardia in Spain, Manchester United were also keeping tabs on Gavi’s future, and even tabled an offer for the player, hoping to get him from the Catalan club.
The report says that they offered the teenager a lucrative €5 million-per-season deal, and that they were willing to trigger his previous release clause, which was at €50 million, much lower than what it is now.

The Red Devils offered Gavi a three-year deal, however, they were met with a firm rejection from the player’s camp, who’s intention was always to remain at his boyhood club.
It’s clear to see why there was so much interest in Gavi – in 2021/22, he made 54 appearances and scored two goals across all competitions, while also breaking through Luis Enrique’s Spain squad.
There’s a good chance he’s on the plane to Qatar this winter for the World Cup as well, which would cap off a brilliant first 15 months in senior professional football.
